Despite the rather modest changes to the exterior, it must be a near complete interior gut.

I'm also willing to bet that we haven't seen the full extent to changes on the west side.

I think the building is going to be a new build- the facade will be the only thing remaining.

That being said, I think it's a bit of a shame the old auditorium is going to be demolished.

This brings Prince Charles' famous quote to mind: "A monstrous carbuncle on the face of a much-loved and elegant friend"

- Awkward transition between new & old
- 2 tones of brick? Why? purple/black brick is already starting to look dated when every developer and their mother have used it on every crap condo project. Now U of T wants to erect a whole wall of it. WHY?
- Basic, uninspired landscape design
- big, blank, brutalist wall... did we learn nothing from the 70s?

CRAP. Is this actually from DSAI?

To be fair, that's the Huron facade and pulled back from the street. It doesn't look textureless - though orange terracotta would be even better.

Looks like it's gonna be white brick, too, which seems a very odd choice; it won't blend in with the existing structure (obviously), and I also don't think it'll stand out confidently as a more unique material choice would.

The loss of the playground here is very unfortunate. There is a coop daycare across the street and a number of kids live in the neighbourhood.

So it's not a facadism, it just looks like one. The massing is not very dignified if it doesn't even look like they left it intact...
