Oh please, you trying to say ....that building those two sports venues, had nothing to do with the kickstart of development:confused:
Building a 65,000 seat speedway is definitely going to attract investors

Wow. The railway lands is prime real estate. It would of been developed regardless if the dome and ACC were built in Downsview. Making it available for development was key as well as the boom. Remediation and capping was completed in the mid 90s when nothing was being built. That was when Cityplace was firmly proposed eventhough it took until 2002 to complete the first tower.

I'm very familiar with Nascar types. They certainly won't be staying in high rise hotels in Niagara Falls On the other hand, the casino may need an expansion and it's a good time to open another strip club.

***shakes head***

These Nascar types I'm refering to ARE Torontonians who, in case you're interested, voted Ford and will vote for him again.

People will drive to the speedway and afterwards drive home.

Lol... you know I was at first excited when I saw so many replies and was hopeful that at least one would actually contain useful information on the current status of this development. Instead we are doing what... debating the causes of construction in Toronto and slinging ignorant comments at each other?

Please, how do we get more information on development applications in Niagara Falls? There seems to be a great resource of people who readily provide great detail for projects in Toronto.

I have lived in the GTA for 30+ years now and it is amazing the development that has occurred, even in Niagara, wow was that town bad back then.

A more recent link if anyone is interested restating a lot of the positives to having such a major venue like this built.

Article is from 2017, but everything is still a go (though definitely not breaking ground in 2019)

15 mln/yr visitors might justify this disproportion somehow..
you got that right! Some statistics say15 and others say about 20 to 30 million. In any case that's a lot of people staying and visiting. That's a good reason why these huge hotels that are going up.

This will really add to the disparity between Niagara Falls, ON vs Niagara Falls, NY.
The only thing American side has going for it is their train station, which is infinitely times better than the dump we like to call a train station here on the Canadian side.

New York has been rebuilding a lot of its empire corridor Amtrak stations - the service is as terrible as always though. Ontario is about to spend some serious cash on the Niagara GO corridor which will end up making NY's investments look like small change.
