Toronto Time and Space Condos | 101.8m | 29s | Pemberton | Wallman Architects

^^ YUCK!

Looks like we dodged a bullet. The last thing Toronto needs is yet another boring mundane massing we've seen 200+ times already. The bulky massing and facade differentiation we got at T&S (and Mirvish Village) is a welcomed departure. The issue here is the quality of construction.

I do not get the hate for this project on the thread. From the view above on approach to Billy Bishop the project has good "twin-tower" massing IMO and presents a "muscular" if truncated presence on the skyline. I have not seen it up close, but it looks to me like a good infill project and from what I can tell good finish details. I am trying to recall what was at that location before - IIRC it was a Accura dealership.

A building need to fit into (or transform - in a positive way) its surroundings. T&S looks "OK" from afar but up close it is GHASTLY. It was an 'infill' in the sense it in-filled a whole block, part of which was Accura, but it COULD and SHOULD have done more than providing tiny homes.

...one just needs to observe the The Whitfield under construction just north of this..and therefore, it's easy to see why there's hate for this.
Exactly. I remember some in this thread claiming that Time and Space was getting hate from the locals because we hate all new builds, but the universal praise and acclaim for The Whitfield just across the street shows that's not the case at all.

I'm one of the few people that really like project from far or up close. I'll never understand the hate from this project other then the name.

Agreed, it's HORRIBLE up close and even worse on the inside. The stories of rats, bed bugs, elevator issues, and so on is insane. They've also not registered and looks like it might not happen any time soon.

...I mean if so, the slum lord conditions seems unsettling here. Especially for something that's brand new and at a premium to live in.

I have a friend living there who hasn't had any of those issues. Also, registration is happening soon.

November 26 - T & S is one big building - pretty much fills the view when looking south-west from the Globe & Mail building.
At the risk of being controversial - I'm not seeing the hooplah here, as compared to any other condo project. I don't like it - it's ugly and megalomaniacal and in terms of scale it doesn't fit in with the pre-existing built form at all - but what condo project does?

The neighbourhood has many condos that fit in with, and make up the existing built form; so your statement doesn't really make any sense at all to me. 222 The Esplanade, 65 Scadding, 138 Princess, 160 Frederick, 135 George, and 109 Front St E are just a few examples of condos within a couple blocks, which are appropriately scaled for the neighbourhood.

And we see the Whitfield across the street which is also 'large' but really quite elegant (certainly MUCH more so than the ghastly T&S)
