The support for them anyways - the supercolumns are much narrower - and each will be supported by around 4 of these (except for the two along Bloor)

Why would they lay fill or aggregate when they are about to drill holes for the columns? Thoughts?

Path connection wouldn't be down at this level - it's likely to allow a steady safe base for the drilling platform to work. It's a Ministry of Labour requirement.

They will lay a bed of aggregate and compact it this will serve as platform for the crane and the caisson drill to move on.
due to their size and wight the equipment will sink and possibly topple if they are on native soil.
