The podium structure seem to have simplified a bit. The main impact of the height reduction is the removal of two of the three stacked units in the final section, which makes the remaining one looking slightly weird - it would be great to redesign that particular section to account for that.

What was the reasoning behind the height reduction? Was it shadowing on Jesse Ketchup Park? Any chance this decision could be overturned?

Read back further but basically a local community group asked Mizrahi to consider reducing the height and he agreed. You'll see a ton of whinging about NIMBYs and Council and KWT but I'm with those who think this was an economically beneficial choice for him and a chance to gain goodwill. In any case, no one forced him to give up the extra metres, he did it on his own.
 
What was the neighbourhood's objection as to why it was too tall? When a building is this tall to begin with, what's the benefit to NIMBYs when they get the height reduced? Going from over 1117 feet to 998 satisfies them how?

It was never explained beyond the request being made and Mizrahi agreeing, so far as I remember.

So bloody stupid. Imagine the sigh of relief (wiping sweat from their brows) when they got their way. "Now it's only a 1000 feet tall. Now we can live!" Why Rosedalians even have a say in the matter is ridiculous. They live at the cusp of the densest area in the country and they think that private development needs to cater to their sensitivities? They should consider themselves beyond fortunate to be able to own a beautiful house that close to the heart of the city.
 
Read the thread. Read the front page stories. It's been written about. It's about shadowing on Jesse Ketchum and the neighbourhood up at Church Street and Park Road. The City specifically doesn't want more shadowing on Jesse Ketchum Park. Plan new shadows on it, and you're in for a fight. Avoid shadows on it, and get your approvals quickly. Need them quickly? Don't cause a fight.

Maybe some developer could just pay for large stadium lights for the park...

Who shouldn't bother, exactly? And for the sake of a few floors, we should give up on a quality design by a name architect? I am glad someone else is making the decisions.

ya well they should never be posting anything like a render till the design and everything is final. Don't get people's hopes up for great projects. Just to have them end up ordinary. It's called false advertising more importantly this is where people will be living. Design changes are a big deal for future owners/tenants etc.
