Toronto The Birmingham | 13.11m | 1s | QuadReal | Ware Malcomb

Just came across this this thread. I remember Mark Grimes sounding fairly angry about Campbell closure. One of his bigger gripes was the steamer the city half-sponsored just a couple of years ago. It's a gas powerplant that generated both the electricity for Toronto Hydro and the steam required to cook the soup. You can read about it here:

Does anyone know if they shut it down? Does this proposal address the steamer? Is it going to be somehow incorporated into the future use of the site?

Demolition of Campbell's soup has commenced with Priestly doing the honours.

About as cold and sterile as you can get, but still looks better than the Maple Leaf's practice facility just down the road on Kiplng.

Well on the bright side, at least the land is being kept industrial, and QuadReal decided to keep the facade of the old Campbell's building (something they did not have to do).

I'm glad this is at least 2 levels. But why not three or four? I would think with industrial development (as with office and residential) building higher would give greater return on land cost.
