Toronto TeaHouse 501 Yonge Condominiums | 170.98m | 52s | Lanterra | a—A

Love it! Steveve will be the first (well second now) to remark at our very own Original World Trade Centre

Add in Aura, 9-21 Grenville, and 5ive and suddenly this doesn't seem out of place. Besides the brutalist massing of these is an unlikely scenario.

I'm all for this project.

With Aura a block and a half away at 70+ stories, I don't believe 58 stories is out of line for this project, however if I were the city I would sit down with Lanterra and make several things clear. Reiterate to them that this is Yonge Street in midtown Toronto, not some side street in North York. Going cheap is inexcusable in this location. The tower must be well designed and meet the street well. Furthermore, the old Vics on Yonge must be protected from future development. Don't know how, but I really hope they find a way.

Yonge St. South of Bloor has been ignored for so long. Its just nice to see these rundown blocks receiving serious consideration. Its only taken the biggest boom in Toronto's history to divert some attention to these areas. Talk about the last players being picked for the team. Its like do we have to build here. Can't we just leave it rot some more.

Realistically, when you add in the Grenville project, Aura, and Five I don't think 58 storeys is hugely out of line.

Exactly. I'd really like to see the massing examples and renders done with those projects added in -- Aura will certainly dominate only a block or so south of here.

Dear lord, this neighbourhood is changing quickly.

Another massing model of the neighbourhood, with 9 Grenville, Five and Aura roughed in for comparison. My Aura looks a little fat in this one.

^^ Fantastic renders CN - you are very talented.

I also think you have demonstrated that, far from being out of place here, this development nicely compliments the other developments in the area. Highrises shouldn't be forced to be on top of each other, it's nice to see them spread out a bit as shown below.....

Now, if we can just get something in the 100 floor range at that empty Opera Place spot, we'd be rockin'

I guess I am for this project as long as the street facade brings new life to Yonge St. I personally would never want to live on Yonge. It is still sketchy in a lot of areas.

Don't forget the proposal for 880 Bay Street, this area is Manhattanizing rapidly!!

Yup. In those shots you can see that 880 Bay will be just a block from 501 Yonge. And don't forget that Burano, which is not included in those renderings, will be right across the street from 880 Bay. These towers almost seem downright contextual to me.

What's this? Is Toronto actually building a downtown core with tall buildings? Next thing you know, all these tall towers and people living in the core will make Toronto as desolate a place as midtown Manhattan or Tokyo. In the end though, I think it might be worth losing the shady porn shops and dollar stores. I'm sure they'll find nice homes somewhere else in the city.
