I’m guessing they are drilling a little foundation for the temporary wall supports.
Assuming the plastic is just to protect the wall from the spray.

I wonder if all the asbestos was previously removed in this government building or maybe just occurred? One broken window per room for ventilation?

Great shots and nice to see so much progress on SW2.

I remember thinking I sure hope they paint a mural on the huge, blank north face of the One Yonge Phase 1 podium... given the long lead time before Phase 3 happens.

Now it looks like that blank wall has been painted white (or perhaps white cladding added?) in @mburrrrr's 3rd and 4th shots. Hmmm...
 
It looks like the warehouse is being preserved. So where's this building going up?
It's not, it's just the facades that you see the plastic covering in @mburrrrr pics that are being retained. On the Lake Shore portion of the site, there will be 2 towers built while on the centre portion of the main warehouse building there will be 1 tower built, followed by an extention of Harbour street that will bisect the southern half of the warehouse building (the part without the plastic covering at the very south end of the site).
 
It seems rare for such extensive work to occur on a condo site prior to sales even starting.

There's a lot of work to be done to prep the site with facade retention and building demolition, so I suppose it makes sense. I wonder if they actually start digging down before sales - that would seem to be very rare.

Since they're preserving portions for a very large area, I'd gather that this will take such a considerable lenght of time in prep work and demolition...that the sales part will likely be done and said before they reach any stage of excavation. So this is likely done intentionally with a degree of confidence that it will all work out just like that.

They were/are clearly tanks for something and they appear to have been excavated outside. These were industrial buildings and it would not be surprising to find them 'surrounded' by underground tanks of one sort or another. I assume the 'demolition' is a complete site clean-up prior to excavating so I bet we see more "stuff' appearing in the months ahead.

The boiler stack is nearby so an oil tank in this location is logical and the most likely use but I’m surprised the tanks appear to be buried single wall steel tanks. I thought the government was trying to get rid of potential oil leak risks years ago and abandon oil tanks had to be excavated.

Maybe it was an employee alcohol vat pumped to the lunch room.

After further review it looks like underground oil tanks need to be registered and inspected every 10 years and removed by a TSSA certified contractor within two years of abandonment. New installations need 110% spill containment. I couldn’t find any requirement for removal of existing tanks other than failing.

I'm pretty sure those were just for storing the red table wine for late, lamented Mother's Pizza.

That above pile of rubble leaves two different impressions on me at once, depending on the angle.

1) They've built/are trying to build a ramp to the second floor out of rubble from the site, which seems very practical, though it doesn't exactly look stable as yet w/that slump in the middle.

2) It looks like the building has an upset stomach and the contents thereof can now be found outside its body.

Too much alcohol can affect the bowels.
