Third crane is going up now
Probobly becuse neither Metolinks or the TTC see a reason to dig under Dnforth and relocate all kind of utilities just for a short pedestrian tunel.Sadly it doesn’t look like the latest design will contribute to a better Danforth-Main St station connection. I had hoped pedestrians would be able to cross through the podium from the go station
I'm really sorry to clown you, but you cannot be serious with "short", friendo...Probobly becuse neither Metolinks or the TTC see a reason to dig under Dnforth and relocate all kind of utilities just for a short pedestrian tunel.

Yup and compared to the one at Dundas West that actually makes sense to build.I mean, it's still "short" if you compare that to something being tunneled under the Alps...
There's also unfortunately no accommodation for it in the redevelopment "plans" for 2575 Danforth: https://urbantoronto.ca/database/projects/2575-danforth-avenue.49398I am it's an unnecessary connection that would take a long time to build because you would have to dig under the Danforth and relocate utilities all to save a few minutes of walking. This location is nowhere near as bad as the one from Bloor station on the Up Express/Go train station to Dundas West nor is it as major of a transfer hub as that one is. Also how do you know what the depth of the basment levls of the curent buildings are along wth the depth of any swer and wter lines that run under the danforth. Alos wher would this tunnel end up in main street sation , and is ther enough room for it to cler eveything in the existing structure.

The plan is to move the community centre to Ted Reeves. Shovels in the ground in 5 years. I am curious how the city made this decision. As I also see it as moving services from a high needs community to a low needs community. On the Community Centre, from the Revision List:
The revised application has removed the Community Centre use at the City’s request and no longer integrates a Metrolinx GO station due to lack of agreement with Metrolinx on how to proceed. The Applicant has investigated a variety of other non-residential uses to be located on the lower floors of the podium, as requested, however the development’s proximity tothe rail corridor limits the typesof permitted non-residential uses. Note that office or studio spaces of all types and any use requiring a people to congregate for any length oftime would not be permitted in the Railway Safetysetback. As such, the Applicant has proposed a self-storage facility as an appropriate non-residential use for this particular site, located in the East Block podium.
I will then add; I don't know what the issue is w/the recreation centre; but I'm quite certain it will not move south.
The City considers that a different area and the tracks a material barrier to movement; it would be seen as withdrawing services from a high-needs community (Main Square) and shifting them to a low-needs community "Upper Beach".
Edit to add: If office/retail/residential uses are not permitted in the podium, would recreation have been feasible? The seeming requirement is to minimize the presence of people in case of a possible derailment. Recreation centres can be full of people.
