Toronto Ridiculous NIMBYism thread

"“We’re just concerned that it’s very close to the University of Toronto (Mississauga) campus and we suspect that it could become dominated by students.”

Oh sure, that's where students want to live - in a Retirement home / Convent!

"Dominated" except during the Christmas holidays or between semesters, when it becomes nearly empty.

Nothing like a bunch of seniors complaining about a seniors' residence.

AoD

If anything, they should cherish the attention they are getting by getting a new retirement home but I do agree with them that the teens will hang around quite a lot. And maybe try to annoy them. But, they should cherish rather then complain.

Proposal to build condos on waterfront 'makes absolutely zero sense,' Pickering residents say

Though I kinda question why people would want to move next to a nuclear plant, especially on a site that is within the exclusionary zone.

It's on the lake. Life on the lake is the best. I'm not just saying that because I'm on the lake either. And hey, it's gotta go somewhere.....most of our lakefront is SFH waste of space. </3

Today was a tough day at CofA. Committee was swayed by an outpouring against building a structure to the size and scale they have approved many times before at Yonge + Lawrence. The big difference? Proposing a triplex. Apparently the doors to families who rent are closed there.

This proposal would have added much needed family sized rental stock and was supported after lengthy consultation with City staff. Worst part? Triplexes are as of right in this area, but they must be smaller than an SFD (makes sense?!). Wounds will be licked & we will soldier on.

We are proud to be looking at ways to be a part of the solution to the housing crisis in this City and letters and public comments now part of the public record will likely not age well. We are determined to reside on the right side of history on this topic. Change is coming.

But you cannot strip politics from planning and we need strong leadership to make sweeping changes to what is permitted to be built across the City if we stand a chance at making a dent in the more homes and more choice that residents deserve here. #nimby #TOpoli

The Yellowbelt shall not be touched - even by what is already allowed as-of-right.

Sounds like an argument Doug Ford could *accidentally* use!

A bunch of people opposing a modest sized hospice.

Sigh.
