It's only striking me now, from seeing that rendering, that this will de facto become the defining skyscraper in Toronto's skyline. In my mind it was still going to be FCP, but One Yonge is going to stand out by such a huge degree.

It is worth noting that Yonge/Bloor will be competing with downtown in terms of visual weight: The One will drag attention away as a second peak moreso than today, even despite this tower and the others; it contrasts less with its surroundings. These semantics wouldn’t be all too significant if we looked at the skyscrapers in a vacuum, but from the water, the defining feature is always going to be the CN tower. Everything is secondary to that, so the relative significance of this project to the skyline is more negligible than it otherwise would be. So the ‘defining skyscraper’ is less important here than say, Montreal, where a new tallest would be the tallest structure period.

BTW… for bean counters there are 37 towers 150 metres to 328.4* metres ... under construction in T-Dot. Not too shabby.
*344.58 metres if SkyTower gets its bump.

Once all the under construction and proposed/approved buildings over 150 meters get built, our skyline will be as big as Chicago. Probably by 2035.

I think a fairer comparison with Chicagoland would be to include all buildings U/C and proposed in the GTA. Once you include Mississauga and North York things start looking a bit more even. True Chicago has a few of those supertall 1970s office towers which most likely will not be repeated in the future outside NYC on this continent.

One of the things I love about GTA is all the clusters of highrises scattered all over. From Downtown Toronto, Midtown, North York, Harbour Front, Vaughn Downtown, Mississauga Downtown. Gives the city a very Asian feel like Tokyo or Bangkok. Unlike any city in North America.

Chicago has many more 300m+ buildings though, and perhaps even 200m+

Dubai, New York and, Guangzhou are the only cities with 10 or more completed supertalls. Size is more than the tallest of the peaks in a skyline of hundreds of high rises and most people would include the CN Tower in the conversation.

Downtown Toronto/Yorkville has 25 completed 200 plus metre towers. There one more in Humber Bay Shores. There's 13 under construction. Chicago has 36 built and 2 under construction. It's a matter of those 13 under construction topping out.

Where is Concord Sky in this graphic? I believe its u/c, at 299m (or 300.1m) but not seen here? A temporary stop work order does not mean the project is cancelled.

One of the database editors changed it to "On Hold". It has been put back to "Under Construction" now and will show up in searches again.

Do you think that the City of Toronto may consider to give them an approval to get more few stories before 105? I hope that it will be the last one. There are too many tall towers to cover the financial district area because they are the legends of 1965 and 1990.
