Toronto Parliament Slip | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto | West 8

Still a year or 2 away from Parliament st/Queens Quay realignment with Cherry st ? And which condo's are going up just past the Gardiner on Parliament beside the distillery, are those complete yet? I just remember 1 year ago walking along that stretch and looked a little ruff needs to look nicer to have a proper connection to the waterfront.
I think their plan is to realign as part of WELRT - no point in doing the work twice. That said, they can’t hand over Phase 2 of Quayside to the developer until it’s realigned because one of their lots (in front of the proposed Plaza development) depends on the realignment.

Am I the only one who thinks that the progress of this area has been timely and miraculous?!
Yes.

Sidewalk labs’ Quayside was supposed to welcome first residents in 2022 - it’ll be at least 8 years behind by the time the first residents move in.

Sidewalk Labs made a proposal that was carefully evaluated and eventually rejected. Though some people around here liked it (and it had exciting facets) I think most of us agreed with the rejection and even if it had been accepted there is no guarantee Google would have actually built it. Careful development takes time (and good nerves) and I think we all want the waterfront to 'look good' - this sometimes takes longer than some of us might like but....

No where did I say the Sidewalk proposal was better - I was simply clarifying that no, the development of this area was NOT timely.

But since you went there, are you saying why we got was superior to the original Sidewalk land development? (Solely based on development and architecture and NOT the data concerns that ultimately tanked the proposal).

We were promised a world class neighborhood and what we are getting is Canary Landing part 2 at best.

My point was not that you liked Sidewalk (I have no idea if you do) but was that if one has a system with many reviews and checks, things WILL take longer than if one just goes for the first proposal you get. I am certainly NOT saying I like the current proposal which, in my opinion, is excessively boring!

Ok, just making sure LOL.

But a lot of the reviews and checks are done post RFP/selection so if you start off with a crappy proposal, it only gets worse from there.

Just to be clear that I view this as a small piece of the overall scheme so maybe compared apples to oranges.

Sherbourne Common is almost 10 years old now - the fact that most of what’s east of there hasn’t been redeveloped should tell you enough about how slow this process has been.

In fairness, suggestions or things imposed during reviews and approvals CAN improve a project and at the end of the day the Planning Act does not give Cities the power to impose aesthetic standards if a proposal meets the various Codes. . The various Design Review Committees and public or planner input make generally useful suggestions and projects CAN improve during the review process. (Though there is then the dreaded cheapening to be dealt with :->)

That’s exactly it - by going to ARF as the main component, everything had to cheapen.

I wonder if they're still planning that floating pool in the lake just west of the Slip... Any new renders of the area have excluded it.

Still part of the plan - pretty sure most recent renders are on WT site. Pools made slightly bigger, more (smaller) vendor stalls, docks for water taxi’s / sea bus all part of the (unfunded) plans.
