It ain't about class, it's about real estate,... and i never singled out any one course, Ive just seen a lot that seem to have disdain for there surroundings. Some seem fine, and I said i was only half serious.

I assumed you'd figure out that I was parodying your comments, re: stanky elites. I also suppose you think your posting is much classier than my comment. Disdain for their surroundings is a little dramatic, a lot of golf courses feature completely naturalized spaces and provide valuable habitats for local wildlife.

UD, is this the first time you've heard of golf prices? Many courses charge well into the hundreds per round. Sometimes I think you're dense on purpose. $40-60 bucks for a good 4 hours of entertainment/activity isn't very much, considering what people pay to see sports, go out to restaurants, on alcohol, amusement parks, concerts, and a multitude of events. Sure, there are cheaper alternatives to pretty much every leisure activity that costs a few bucks, but if we're going to look at it that way, we might as well all revert back to nomadic hunter/gatherer days.

And you can spend (lose) a lot more than 40 bucks in a game of poker.

Yeah, I don't mean to be offensive, I guess from reading BlogTO (and other pseudo-socialist nonsense websites like it) I get tired of the anti "rich people activity" sentiments, often directed at golf and other supposed elite activities. I'll be golfing 'til the day I die.

I'm guessing in steveve's language, we could say the contrast of old vs. new is "epic", but the massive surface parking lots are "fail". Though, not to be even more curmudgeonly, but I'd like to see epic banned on these forums. It's being used a little excessively as of late.
 
I'd rather spend $50 at Plush Spa to "relax" than play golf. :p I hate artificially landscaped greenery.

Now, the sport I'd really love to participate in and see join the big leagues: the BBC Top Gear's car football concept.

Not surprised to see a hate on for golf around here, but to suggest they should be eliminated from the city? Seriously? For people who hate sprawl and love good design, a golf course in the city should be right up your alley. Also, we shouldn't be removing any recreational facilities in this city, and golf is one of the best recreational activities for people of all ages.

uhh St George's is one of the top 100 golf courses in the world and Weston and Lambton are two of the top courses in the country... They're huge assets for this city along with the other really awesome courses we have here.
 
Huge assets to the city???A library is a huge asset, a school, bridge, or hospital is a huge asset, a golf course that 2% of the population uses, is not a huge asset. More affordable hockey rinks with more accessable ice time, that is a bigger asset, than your plaid pants walking strip.
I'm not saying get rid of them, just temper your language a little. Cityplace is a far bigger asset , in terms of the public good.
