Toronto Ontario Place | ?m | ?s | Infrastructure ON

i am going to take the approach that we will see what happens the water park was one of my favorite places as a kid and would love to see Ontario place as more then just a gathering area for concert goers at Budweiser stage as that is what i see it as right now ill hold my judgment till i see more progress no government will ever please everyone and some governments please no one but with this project being so high profile at least there should be some compromises

I remember going to Ontario Place as a kid. Blame Dalton McGuinty and the Liberals for letting it rot.

The same people criticizing the revitalization of Ontario Place will be the first ones to attend it's opening.

There is a reason why Doug Ford's party is 40% in the polls.

The Ontario Liberals and NDP are basically the Trudeau Liberals. Bye.
Agreed! Doug Ford gets things built, period. I do not understand why people on a City Building Forum like this hate Doug Ford? He is building transit, highways, infrastructure etc etc. Way more than previous governments.

Except for the bolded being untrue.......

He announces a lot of projects........he's gotten remarkably few started, and the ones he inherited and the ones he started are generally mismanaged, over budget and late.

Go to the Hurontario LRT thread to see the latest boondoggle in progress.

I have been on this forum for a very long time and I remember all the talk of a relief line subway line that no government had the courage to fund. Dougie go it done. Also accelerated Crosstown West, Line 1 North extension etc etc. People may hate Doug's politics, but it cannot be denied that he likes to invest in infrastructure.

The Relief Line was already funded when Ford came to power, he cancelled it, and delayed work by several years, the subsequent Ontario Line project has very serious flaws and has resulted in slashed GO Service for more than 4 years, with no end in sight.

Dougie go it done.

No he didn't. He cancelled it. Then replaced it with something with lower capacity that made a hash of GO Service, destroyed a good chunk of Moss Park, and that won't be delivered (if on schedule) less than 2 years later than the original proposal. But based on his government's management of other projects, and my understanding from insiders on the Ontario Line, the timeline has slipped by a few months already.

There is no North Line 1 extension yet. It too is also an inferior version of the project, re-routed not to save money but to enrich a developer group, at considerable cost to the taxpayer. It too will be delivered late.

What cannot be denied is that he's good at announcing things............the 413 is not under construction, the Bradford Bypass is not under construction, (I'm glad they aren't, but I digress); and most of the transit he's announced isn't either; including a Hamilton LRT he cancelled then revived.

The Relief line wasn't already funded. Doug Ford got federal funding while at the same time expanded the project. Remember this project doesn't get off the ground without the feds.
While other governments talk, Doug Ford gets things done.

We all get that you're a political partisan, a contrarian and here to get under the skin of UT members, and not to contribute anything substantive to any thread.

Which is why, as of today, you're on ignore.

I do not have time to counter all of your inaccuracies here, let's get back on topic. I am very happy the Ford government is actually doing something with a long neglected asset. I believe he has struck a balance between public/private objectives. We can agree to disagree, but he will be re-elected like it or not.

By all means we should be on topic, but I will ask you to edit out your allegation of inaccuracies. I take my posting seriously and endeavour to always be factual. If you feel I have made a provably erroneous statement, please supply the evidence, and I will retract said statement. In the alternative, your allegation is unfounded and not reasonable.

What? Doug Ford got federal funding for the downtown relief line:

All three orders of government are moving rapidly to support the recovery from COVID-19. Building on historic investments in public transit, today the Government of Canada announced $10.4 billion in federal funding for four public transit projects in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA):

  • Ontario Line
  • Eglinton Crosstown West Extension
  • Yonge North Subway Extension (federal contribution amount subject to Treasury Board approval)
  • Scarborough Subway Extension

Doug Ford gets things built, period.

Except he builds the wrong things. Building more highways/increasing highway capacity is a terrible idea that just results in more traffic. He also has no respect for nature with his Green Belt plans and the Ontario Place massacre. All this and his stance on bike lanes is completely idiotic. Doug Ford f'n sucks.

Is getting things done a criteria for good government? What if the things they do is wrong, stupid and/or pointless? It would seem far more reasonable if government did the right things in the respect of governing...

...I get that there is a degree of what doing the right thing looks like here. But it's far cry different from getting things done for the sake getting things done. I mean, Joseph Stalin, Attila the Hun, Pol Pot, et al, got things done too...so that's not always a good thing or ends well. And to put that mildly.

I know we're veering off topic, but to further the point of getting the wrong things done - spending $250M to get out of beer store contract for corner store sales is absolutely insane when we have a homeless and healthcare problem.
