There are two kinds of exhibition pavilions: extroverted, and introverted. For all its external pyrotechnics, Expo's French Pavilion was introverted--a gift-wrapped space container. Bucky Fuller's US Pavilion's extroverted, as are the Ontario Place pods. There's a reason why a casino suits one and not the other...
Yet I always sensed an introverted quality to Ontario Place, albeit not completely. The pavilions have their open, glazed side, but they also present window-less sections. The water acts like an element of distance and separation. To get to know the interesting side of Ontario Place, you have to spend some time with it and make an effort (by going inside the complex).
