Toronto Minto775 King West | ?m | 17s | Minto Group | Hariri Pontarini

I saw this today and wasn't impressed at all. The cladding looks very generic and gloomy with that grey spandrel. Overall, it's a missed opportunity to give this lame stretch of KW a boost of visual interest. Definitely one of HP's blander projects to date.

What a difference this building has made to this stretch of King. Looking forward to it opening up this year.

Hoarding is starting to come down.
Most of the new sidewalk has been poured, though I didn't see any openings for trees or planters.
Looking good so far.

So... my question is; What is stopping Developers from designing the entire building like the bottom half in this case?
The top does nothing to the aesthetics of this product.

So... my question is; What is stopping Developers from designing the entire building like the bottom half in this case?
The top does nothing to the aesthetics of this product.

I'm guessing it's money (I'd assume the materials used in the lower portion of the building are more expensive than the top) & the fact that people have shown that they are still willing to buy into a building that is half attractive, half essentially forgettable.

People have also shown that they are willing to buy in buildings that are downright hideously offensive on the outside (Liberty Village, Cityplace, Sudbury St etc.) but that's another conversation altogether.

^I noticed that.

Cause there isn't one at King and Strachan and Queen and Ossington and King and Peter. Shoppers, Tim Hortons and RBC have become the unholy trifecta of condo retail.

Otherwise, I'm perfectly fine with this building. Just the ground floor retail shows how far developers have come when you compare it to the condo to the East with its hobbit-hole retail.
