Vaughan McMichael Canadian Art Collection Expansion | ?m | 2s | MCAC | Hariri Pontarini

The biggest problem is the absolutely awful access for anyone without a car. Kleinburg has become another popular weekend day trip destination (the gallery only a part of it), so traffic has gotten worse as well. But it’s an especially affluent part of Vaughan, so you’ll never get decent transit.

Any transit?

There are bus stops 600m away at the road entrance to McMichael and Islington. However, best I can figure they are only used by a YRT school special.

The Islington bus stops at Arista Gate, 3.8km to the south. Leaving one a 4.4km walk to the gallery.

An Uber? No thanks.
Astro Taxi then......as long as they do not show up in a pint sized Kia. (Another pet peeve. Why do we not have a standard and required taxi for the GTA? Something that takes four people, even if they are all 194 cm tall, and some luggage. As opposed to some dude driving a Corolla and operating his cleaning business out of the front seat - true event last week in Montreal. We should just licence build the LTI TXII as a hybrid, make it an AWD version, require winter tires in winter and bingo -say goodbye to pint sized Kias.)

Yes, the stop out front on Islington is a school route. Far from 'decent'.

The nearest regular service is 2.8km away at Islington and Napa Valley, served by the 13 (which has no weekend service) and the 85.

YRT's 6 route coming this year will stop at Major Mack and Islington, reducing the walk to sub-2km, but weekend service will be every 45ish.

The walk is also just not great at any distance lol.

That's one thing that needs to be fixed in revitalizing this place: A reasonably sustainable bus stop, IMO.

Okay, the press announcement has been made, so we now have a rudimentary database file (linked above) and a front page story with a pile of renderings from Hariri Pontarini... like this one:

No site plans, floor plans yet. We shall see! I image that today's announcement was aiming to provide the museum with enough to go public to secure philanthropic support to add to the $75M that has been pledged by the Province and the Feds.

Whaaaaaaaaaaat?!?! Get your booty up there! Wait a couple of weeks until it gets a bit more naturey outside though, and its naturish setting is half of the pleasure of the place. And yeah, there's lots of worthwhile art to experience too.

I'll look forward to seeing what kind of addition they have in store for us, and how it will be incorporated into the existing building. Add one more (two-level) major gallery building at the north end so that you go further before turning around to start making your way toward the entrance (and gift shop, exit by the gift shop, it is such a nice one...) area again? Or maybe the current configuration of a long snaking path in before the long snaking path out is long enough now, and any new addition could be an alternate path that starts from the entry area? Whatever gets added, it will have to fit the plateau-top site's topography, and I assume that any new building will be further back from the 'stable top of bank', which the older building definitely is not.

(I expect were they just starting to build the first gallery there now, it would never be allowed to be built right into the rim of the ravine the way the existing one is, as I don't think the Conservation Authority allows exceptions for major art galleries/tourist attractions...)

Additionally, when investing, it is crucial to utilize reliable payment methods. I was looking for such on dolly casino because sometimes I still like to play games. Everything there is tested and reliable, so it is really convenient to use for searching.

I'll definitely go once it’s greener outside. Curious to see how the new addition blends with the landscape and existing layout!
