To me the vertical stripes make it look like the pre-renovation Thomson building (or whatever it's called now), which is from the same era.
Is that the MunichRe building?Yes, the updated building (401 Bay) turned out atrociously - and that's with expressed vertical elements integral to the original design.

They stripped down almost the entire outer shell in just a couple of days. There has to be lots of value in those steel beams and thus the choice of demolition method.
