L Tower construction information 8 The Esplanade – L Tower January 8 – 15, 2016.

As the new year gets underway, the exterior tower crane remains up as the construction management team continues to wait for delivery of the new derrick that will be used to set the permanent maintenance platform in place at the top of the L Tower. Suite finishing work continues at L Tower on the fewer and fewer unoccupied suites that remain.

Since they have been waiting for this 'new derrick' for months it is either being hand-crafted by Santa's Elves (who have been busy of late) or someone forgot to order it. Considering the generally poor planning on this construction project, I tend to suspect the latter. The continuing crane rental costs must be huge and the general lack of planning/urgency/competence etc shown by the developers/builders with this project is hardly going to help them in future projects - like 158 Front.

Walked past here today; the unfinished state of the project isn't even the worst part. The Yonge Street frontage is abysmal. The concern here was to create an iconic shape on the skyline. Unfortunately the project falls very short of being good architecture or good citybuilding.

At street level, this building is terrible. It does nothing to animate the street. In fact, it kills any vibrancy on Yonge Street and does nothing for The Esplanade. The city should have never allowed this design on Yonge Street.

Libeskind didn't do too well with the entrance to the ROM on Bloor either. Perhaps it is the cheapening thing again.

That's something to worry about - though if the Whisky Fountain and Whisky Canal shown on the rendering are not simply more examples of false advertising it may all be worthwhile :->
Any idea if anything from that project is even going happen anymore, no real info for a while an there was bunch of confusion on that thread

there was a huge water leak in October that led to no power whatsoever in the building for 24 hours, and no running water for almost 72 hours.

that was due to city pipe bursting, not a fault of the building. it could have happened to any of the surrounding buildings

Crane update - they carefully do not say which YEAR!

Tower Crane:
The exterior tower crane will remain up through the balance of January and February. In March the new derrick will be lifted to the top of the L Tower to enable the installation of the permanent maintenance platform for the building. The tower crane would then be dismantled. We will have updates on the timing of this work later in the winter.

That is promising and hopefully it will actually happen.
Yes, not doubt it will be removed (or fall over) sooner or later and the longer it remains the sooner that day will come but why do you think this announcement is any more likely to be true than the MANY that have preceded it?

No particular reason, just hope.
