I'd almost be willing to wager my bank account that they won't be lit up. This is Toronto. We rarely ever light buildings up in this city, especially heritage buildings.

I think that lighting up our buildings will make me feel as if i'm in Las Vegas, wait, i forgot where not getting casino's anytime soon.

Why Las Vegas? Basically every major city in the world illuminates their major office towers and or heritage buildings. Toronto is a joke in this regard. The city is so depressingly dark at night. Imagine how much more alive the core would be with the Royal York, Commerce Court North, Canada Permanent Building, Canada Life Building, Old City Hall, etc. lit up

The setbacks at Brookfield Place and One Queen East would do well for some lighting as well.

It doesn't need to be excessive, Chicago also has a fairly boxy skyline in certain areas, but a few well-placed illuminated buildings make the skyline much more dynamic.

That balcony section really stands out, but I think that's a good thing. If the balconies blended in like the spandrel it would look too busy, but the different width lines will be visible as two separate elements and it should actually look less confusing, what does everyone else think?

I think its good having the balcony glass a different size in width. Glad its not blue. My only concern now is thay the view from the Gardiner Expressway. Once Backstage condos goes up it will just block the L tower.

Ahh. Yes indeed. The Backstage will indeed totally obliterate the view of the Ltower from the south. But you have to remember that the Ltower will be long completed, sold out and the builder will be gone.
And the lesson for today is?..

The lesson is pure common sense, if you don't want your view blocked, never buy a condo unit that has any available land, or older, shorter buildings anywhere near it, and even that doesn't guarantee you an unobstructed view in the future. Face it, if you're buying anywhere in the downtown core, you risk loosing you're view at some point. My not so bright friend decided to buy on Bay Street, at the beginning of the condo boom. He bragged about his beautiful 28th floor south east view, about three years later, south he was looking into someone's livingroom, and east could only see between the 2 taller Collage Park towers across the street, and he actually attempted to sue the builders of his building because they didnt tell him, duh, the buildings blocking his view werent even begun, buyer beware! What can I say, he's a super nice guy, but more money then brains (his millionaire parents bought the condo for him, don't know why he's bitching). As for lighting up our towers, terrific idea, it's adds so much to the night skyline. In my old apartment I had a full view of the CN Tower, I remember how much more appealing it looked once they installed the LED lighting. It doesn't make it look "Vegas", it makes it looks warm, and welcoming, if done properly that is.

^^ Backstage won't look interesting from the south either. It will just look like 2 walls of windows. At least L Tower will have that slant on top.

The builder will be gone? Well all those who bought in Backstage will likely not be happy to hear that their builder (I assume you mean developer), the same one as that of L tower, will be leaving without finishing their home.
Yes, shame on Cityzen (et al.). Shame on them for giving us a tower by a world-renowned architect. Shame on them for incorporating high quality materials like curtain wall. And lastly shame on them for developing other land they own nearby. A pox on all their houses.

Hanlansboy gets the highest mark. You never buy a condo ANYWHERE downtown expecting a forever view. Sometimes even when a purchase looks like its comes with a guaranteed spectacular vista, a rude surprise is waiting in just a few short years. Just ask anyone who bought a unit at the Ltoer expecting what would have been a great south facing view. Ask anyone on the 34th floor on down. I mean what were the odds? Who would/could shoehorn a a 30plus storey building on that scrap of land across the street.
One of my favourite views when i was younger,was the the Toronto skyline from the south with the grand old Royal York Hotel looking like the centrepiece. Now when I go along the Gardiner, I know it's back in there somewhere.
It's still one of my favorite views anywhere. Just a different evolved and truly exciting view. I just have to stand back further.
My present view of the CN tower from my place is great. I bought what I bought after doing a a LOT of due diligence on what would be between me and CN Tower in the near future. Even at that I wasn't exactly sure where Ltower was being positioned. It was just a rough concept then. I'm always waiting to hear about some new totally unexpected and unlikely structure to be built between me and the CN Tower. When it happens (and it will), then it will happen.
After all, I live downtown.
