Walked by the site today...the foundations on this one are interesting. Maybe someone with some knowledge on the subject can chime in on what's being built.

The pure sand here is fascinating - I wonder how large of an area it covers.

I believe you can simply consider these as footings, which go deeper into the earth than the rest of the building. Not sure if they wold include piles going all the way down to rock, or not.

In regards to the sand, the area here—which is on a height ridge—would have been a sandy spit separating the glacial-era Lake Iroquois from a bay to the north.
