The design of this tower is so insipid it makes my soul hurt. The notion that this design actually sprang from a professional architect's head and then somehow managed to get approved by the developer makes me lose faith in the idea that there's actually any pride or taste in this city. I give YC Condos a better grade than this. At least there, the architect tried to do something visually dynamic and engaging (notwithstanding the absolutely abysmal execution). This is just depressing from the outset.
So the earlier guess that the tower is supported by beams is incorrect - and there is still some (original?) brick remaining. I wonder if that cornice will be preserved?
Answer - Yes - from the 2017 Conservation Plan by ERA under the SPA:

And they will be replacing the shingles with slate ones, among a whole of other restorations. Amazing.
Does anyone know if anything other than the tower is being restored? The Yonge Street elevation is a redone facsimile from the 1980’s so I assume it will be demolished (thank god).
