Happy to read that they're using the broadband / white noise backup alarms. A friend felt forced to move out of a decent apartment in uptown Waterloo during Ion's overnight construction period because even with foam ear plugs in the beeping backup alarms were just too much for her to sleep through. :-(

^One wonders how many caissons in total, and what the spacing is between piers.

The work proceeds down the line, so not too many nights’ disruption in any one spot.

It’s certainly a much shorter period of unpleasantness than, say, the pile driving for the West Toronto tunnels.

Can confirm I've been hearing the white noise reverse alarms since about May. Wondered what they were at first but they're certainly more neighbour-friendly than traditional *beeps*.

I've heard that at our local County landfill/transfer station. I just thought the back-up alarm speaker/transponder had been damaged. It is effective and doesn't carry anywhere as far as the high-pitched beeping.

To the left/east - yes. They moved the track to the east side of the corridor while they build the bridge on the west side of the corridor.

How is service working? Seems like all tracks are out?

COVID-19 replaced trains on the Barrie Line weekend evenings and weekends with buses. Which means more time and space available for the construction.

Service changes start January 23

COVID-19 has changed how we think and behave. We know we need to operate our services differently and will continue to monitor and adapt as necessary.

Starting Saturday, January 23, we are temporarily replacing select GO train service with buses to better match customer demand.


Weekday evening and weekend trains replaced by bus service

Weekday evening and weekend trains on the Barrie line will be temporarily replaced by buses to make better use of resources while demand is low.

The schedule of the replacement buses will be different than current train times, with some buses departing earlier. Travel time on the buses will also be longer than on the train so give yourself extra time to get to where you are going. If you're using PRESTO, tap on the device when boarding and exiting the GO bus. Don't tap on the machines at the station.

Some customers will need to transfer buses at Aurora GO or East Gwillimbury GO. Some replacement buses do not stop at East Gwillimbury or Newmarket GO. Check the schedules for other GO bus options available. Use triplinx.ca to help plan your trip.

GO buses will not serve Downsview Park or Bradford GO. Downsview Park customers can take the TTC. Bradford GO customers can take GO Bus Route 68.
