Cambridge Gaslight Condos | 69m | 20s | HIP Developments | ABA

Put it on the UrbanToronto map
Cambridge is the latest municipality that we have begun to create database files for. This should be done in the next short while!

Covering a monstrosity with another monstrosity.
That curved mirrored glass facade is tacky and bizarrely out of place. It should belong on a casino or 90s shopping mall entrance.
Why can't they do something sympathetic to the history of the site and neighbouring buildings? It's just a hot mess of different unappealing architectural styles with no rhyme or reason.

Agree 100% it makes zero sense to me. Especially when they did so good with heritage restoration.

I don’t even care about the towers but im hoping for a podium reclad in 10 years

The entire region of Waterloo really needs to get some better architecture because this is just horrendous. Hopefully some of the newer projects by Vanmar, Cambridge Mill and the Park/Vic project make it better. HIP and IN8s developments are all so horrendous.

Looks interesting.
I wonder whether it will flash with the music from concerts that'll be in the plaza?

Hello Hello

At The Gaslight District, we want to keep the hellos going until we have more in common than we ever thought possible. So, as you enter the square, step up to the megaphones of Hello Hello and offer a warm greeting to new friends, your city, and even the Grand River. Then watch your message climb the “Hello Arch” and turn into a sound and light show. This installation is the perfect ritual for entering a public area designed to turn strangers into friends.
Hello Hello also has a five-storey metallic wall that reflects your message across the river and into the heart of our city. There are no goodbyes at The Gaslight District—just bright, bold hellos.

There's also an 'interactive' musical pavement called RiverLines:

River Lines

One of Cambridge’s cultural stories is the Grand River and the historic 100-year flood of 1974. During that fabled flood, we left our homes and backyards and worked as a united congregation to help one another. Decades later, River Lines brings us together once again—this time to be a congregation at play.
Step on a floor sensor and discover the sound it creates. Keep moving. Your steps will connect to those of your neighbours and together you will start creating music that is unique to Cambridge. Dance all day and night—you’re among family.

Little night tour. Though this really only features the parts I stopped to capture, otherwise theres not much to see when not in use for events...

I wish we'd see animated signs more often now that LED neon is so common, too bad cities are usually too afraid of it. (I realise a photo doesn't really explain what I mean, but alas.)

The signage design around is a step above, and the quality I expect to see at Mirvish Village.
