Toronto Fort York Visitor Centre | ?m | 2s | Fort York Foundation | Patkau

has there been a lot of work to that part of the gardiner recently? it looks brand new!

Just walking under it today, and looking at the columns...it really did look sound, sturdy, and new. Perhaps work was done (relatively) recently in preparation for the Visitor Centre construction?

It has only been on my radar since it was announced that work was beginning...I love history and I'm really excited for this project to come to life. The buildings in the renderings really work well within the context of the site. Certainly a HUGE improvement to under-utilized land, that's for sure.

I've always loved this stretch of the Gardiner. The height and soaring columns are quite impressive, and the fact that it doesn't run over Lake Shore here allows for so many land use possibilities underneath. The Visitor Centre is a great start, along with the small parkette by Cityplace. Some sort of linear park or sheltered event space could work as well; beer fest under the Gardiner perhaps?

Excited for this. It's gonna do a lot for the area. Hopefully it'll inspire some other creative uses for dead space under and around the gardiner.

It would be nice to have a pond in front of Fort York as a landscaping feature following the original shoreline of Lake Ontario to help people visualize its historical context better.

I wish they could paint those expressway pillars to look like tree trunks and leaves.

To create that effect, you'd need a lot more than a coat of paint, which is essentially a 2D intervention. Some sort of well-executed sculptural frieze would be interesting, but short of that I don't think it could be made to look like anything other than a lightly-decorated expressway.
