I still don't understand why people like this design.

Your posts are nutty. Some of us love modernist buildings coupled with awesome restorations of historic structures. There's more than enough red brick in the base, the tower doesn't need any. Your version would just blend in and not be the slightest bit special.

A juxtaposition of incongruous elements tends to stand out. This one stands out in a very good way. So why would it want to just blend in?

I was also admiring this project during Open Streets. It's one of my favourites, especially the respect to the built heritage on Yonge Street.
