My guess? It's just marketing. It doesn't have to make profound sense. Look at the names of cars. It's pretty strange when you get down to it: Elantra. Aerio. Passat. Accord. A lot of the time it's intended to do little more than sound vaguely cool.

My favourite wtf car name is still the Qashqai.
 
Yup, that's a good one!

It's probably getting successively tougher to give these developments names that have some contextual legitimacy, or even some pizazz. We can safely expect them to become stranger/more of a stretch with each passing year.
 
I think they named it "the shift" because the floors at the bottom shift inwards. that could be the only explanation.
 
They still have to built it. There was trio of office towers planned on the west side of Ontario from Adelaide to Richmond connected by a glass atrium. It was killed by the dot com bust.

25 Ontario Street will be a defining piece of the growing development and vibrant technology scene happening in the east end of Toronto's downtown core. The building, which is currently under development, will be 18-storeys and 460,000 square feet once completed. Think Research will serve as an anchor tenant and occupy nearly 90,000 square feet in the new building.

Do we know if there is offices in the first 5 floors?, cause there is 18s above that
