I don't hate it, but as I said, its quality is only average (judging my personal experience), and I just don't see why people seem to look forward to it that much, maybe it is the "the first store" factor or the "Japanese factor" (people line up for anything Japanese, let it be a ramen house, or cheesecake with 10% cheese or Muji). I shopped at Uniqlo several times and was never impressed. Slightly better than H&M, but Zara is better.

I think most people would settle for "slightly better than H&M". Clothing is expensive, and with Saks and Nordstrom coming to the Eaton Centre, there are fewer and fewer options for stores that don't break the bank. The problem is, most "affordable" clothing feels cheap, or looks cheap. H&M often suffers from this. Zara is often too fashion forward, and too often relies on cheap materials. Uniqlo seems like the best bang for your buck. $40 merino wool sweaters, $50 selvedge jeans. Hard to beat that with most other brands.

Zara's is opened up !! I thought we were gonna get a restaurant on the top levels.

As usual I was wrong...

That Zara uses the same sort of backlit glass facades that a lot of high end retailers use in US malls - like South Coast Plaza (Costa Mesa, CA)

I think it's irrelevant whether some people here understand the draw of Uniqlo, Muji, H&M or Zara. These are GLOBAL brands that have obviously already proved that they appeal to people in Europe, Asia and North America. It's always good to see these shopping options start appearing in Canada. We're not talking about flash-in-the-pan retailers like Juicy Couture or Hot Topic where we can wonder where there's enough appeal for them to remain on the scene for long.

let's wait for the price to be available to make that comment. As far as I know, MUJI charges twice the price it does in Japan (they even leave the JPY price tag there).

From a couple of evenings ago, this is the latest at the Eaton Centre.

First off, the hall through the former Sears basement is now all open other than two stores, one which will become Free People on the east side, and one on the west with no name on the hoarding (and no photo). The openings since I last shot the hallway are Mendocino, Virgin Mobile, and Blue Marine

Along with Zara opening in the top two floors of the galleria, Reiss and UGG have now opened too.

Looks like they replaced some windows and had to remove the panels to do it. It's not the first time going by the different coloured coatings on the glass panels.

Thanks!

The ledge seems to work well to downplay the upper storeys.
Still interested whether those brackets near the south corner are for a Nordstrom sign,
since that's really on the exterior of Sears corporate offices.

Some of the H&M light wall is complete and uncovered.

It's clear now that these won't be displays, only coloured light boxes. I'm sure it will look great and add some fun to the square and to the Eaton Centre atrium but to be honest, it looks kind of boring. Just run of the mill acrylic light boxes.
