An alternative is the province could buy out all of the transit agencies from their respective cites much like how all of the older tube lines in London were to merge them together.

Although I don't really think that is likely to happen either.

They don't have to spend a single penny. They just need to legislate a takeover of a municipal public service. It would be easier to takeover the entire TTC than just the subways.

Then they have to decide on how to fund its operation since they are ALL losing money. Then their objective of being the Translink of GTA would be realized. Except Translink didn't do something stupid and make their own Presto system but instead bought a proper working Compass system.

That didn't support the existing Translink's relatively simple one-operator fare structure, forcing Translink to eliminate fare zones on buses, because the system couldn't process the tap-outs fast enough.

You mean elevated. The road is certainly wide enough for an elevated guideway and it's cheaper to do than burying the line.

The real station entrances are still holes in the ground.

It's Line 1's station box being connected to Line 5's station box. So the crosstown site is involved.

All of the work being done at the existing Eglinton Station to tie it in with The Crosstown has forced the implementation of the updated fire code rules.

This building is going to provide for fans and doors to the existing tunnels to the south of the station. The work north of Eglinton in the middle of Yonge will provide for the same north of the station.

Had The Crosstown not been built, these upgrades - at least to this extent - would not have been required. So yes, The Crosstown is the reason why this is being built.

I absolutely love the look of this mined station, I wonder why we dont do more of it? Are the costs significantly higher compared to a traditional tunnel bore through and station box construction method?
