There are three smaller pits in front of the crane that were not in any of the above photos; I am assuming those are where the elevators would go:

It's my understanding that they're planning to restore a lot of the original church structure to incorporate it with the new parts. They're not going to leave us with just that wall and stick a tower behind it.

As it has been over two weeks since my last update here, I walked by this morning and noticed they have formed foundational walls in the pit:
