Street Level Friday

Standing on the northeast corner of Bay at Lake Shore looking towards Yonge St and Lake Shore, some new curb work reducing the lanes along Lake Shore by one. I am hoping this results in a 'square corner' at Bay and Lake Shore which will force all vehicles turning right onto Bay St to slow to a crawl. This has always been a very dangerous spot for pedestrians. Busses and trucks would often climb the sidewalk when making their turn. and the concrete support column has always made it a blind corner for drivers

And a look at the exterior stairs reaching for the elevated park.

Now I know I'm biased because I have a particular affinity for Hong Kong and its skyline, however what would be wrong with eventually having a colourful toronto waterfront like this? White can still be excellent too as you can clearly see with both the bank of China tower and the ICC. They look brilliant in white, but can also change colours depending on the occasion or season.

Would I want to see CIBC square lighting up red or green every day? Absolutely not, but over Christmas that would certainly be nice. Blue I think would look excellent on this building as well.

I think Im ok with multi colour leds, but only if they are not executed in the same way as Telus Sky in Calgary. These lighting shows are so tacky and obnoxious.

The beauty of RGB LEDs: they are programmable. Be tacky and cheerful today. And be dignified, stoic, and neutral Tomorrow.

We can have both. I hope some buildings are willing to be adventurous....occasionally.
Keep in mind...there will be eventually 2 buildings with these on it when this all said and done. Double the pleasure!
