The offer is a 7-storey reduction on the tallest tower from 46 to 39 storeys; along with reducing the previously 39-storey tower, by one, to 38.
 

Council gives controversial development in Barrie the green light​

The largest condo development in Barrie's history has been given the green light by city council.

After months of discussions, the controversial towers, which had some residents debating its height, will go ahead with a rezoned design on Lakeshore Drive and Bradford Street.

"Public input and public engagement was key in this project, and it made a real impact on the reduction of height," said Councillor Keenan Aylwin.

The buildings, which will be developed by SmartCentres, will reach heights of 41, 38, 35 and 25 storeys respectively and include 1,900 units.

Commercial space will also be included in the project, and a hotel, which would be the only one in the city's downtown.

Aylwin, who represents Ward 2, said on Tuesday that he is pleased with council's decision.

"I think council realizes that we needed to find a compromise and balance about respecting the existing neighbourhood and making sure that the city can grow in a sustainable and responsible way, and I think we did achieve that."

In addition to the buildings, the city plans to ensure that a nearby pond on Lakeshore is maintained to conserve the landscape and wildlife.

A start date for this development has yet to be announced as the decision is up to SmartCentres on when to break ground.

I know it's still a fair bit away, but I can't wait to see some activity on this site. It's pretty dead, and development here would really help to bridge the gap between downtown and Allandale GO.

The site plan has been approved for the first phase of the SmartCentres’ proposed multi-phased project at 51 to 75 Bradford St. and 20 Checkley St., across from the city’s marina. That first phase involves the development of a 25-storey, mixed-use building, consisting of 230 apartment units, 145 hotel suites, and 5,734 square feet of retail.

Adopting the Toronto city council attitude about hieght. Let's make all the towers basically the same height forget about height diversity lol! As seen in the photos up above.
 
If the first phase is the shorter towers I wouldn't be surprised if they try to renegotiate more height for phase 2 based on what's getting built around here.
