The City of Burlington is contemplating a redevelopment of the Burlington Art Gallery:

It's impressive that they're interested in spending that kind of money on this relatively obscure (but good quality) art gallery. What seems to scream out for improvement more than this institution, though, is the sea of surface parking lots around it that mar the area and suck out its vitality. Not only is it on the far edge of the downtown core, but it's also surrounded by empty space--not a winning combination for an art gallery.
 
Actually the parking in a suburban area may be a win for this. Personally I probably would not train/transit to Burlington to see an Art Gallery. However I would drive.

most of the parking in this area is in the hydro corridor and can't really practically be replaced with buildings.

I've spent a fair bit of time in this area and this part of the city is very much still walkable and very pleasant for pedestrians. It's honestly one of the most urban, walkable areas in the 905. It's really not that bad. There is a lot of pedestrian activity in the area associated with Spencer Smith Park, there is a decent amount of residential density in the area, etc.
 
Can't believe you guys beat me to this by 3 hours haha.

This is going to be huge for us out here in Burlington. The building was originally built as a community centre and was never designed to be an art gallery. That being said, the AGB provides really incredible community space and programming, it seems like there are events happening all the time. At a glance, it may not seem like the good investment or at least a strange one, but the art gallery is actually a very important thread in the fabric of our city's community spaces.

As for the adjacent surface parking lots, there are power lines that run over a good chunk of them so nothing vertical can be built.
