I still don't understand how they then get the 2nd crane off these buildings, after it has removed the first. Is it disassembled and taken down the elevators?

Essentially, yes. Sometimes it take as many as three derricks to get everything down. The first derrick lowers the parts of the crane, the second smaller derrick lowers the parts of the firs derrick, and if it's still too large for to fit into the elevator when disassembled, then a third, more compact, derrick is used to lower the second's pieces to the ground.
