That decision doesn't lie as much with the city as it does with OMERS/Oxford and the commercial tower tenants/landlords choosing to move from MCC; and whether they can find/build adequate replacements at Port Credit.

Plus the business case for large malls like Square One usually dictates that income producing floor area remain as little touched as possible. That's why you don't see these malls carved up for a more urban street grid, but towers plunked around the edges--don't mess with the space that brings in money. So they're not in a rush to relocate or make major changes.
 
Tribute is now the owner of the property and development proposal. They have issues with one of the potential layouts for the proposed new Downtown Brampton Transit Hub, which if built, would take some of the property to allow for the realignment of Railroad Street.

All other potential layouts call for the partial or complete closure of Railroad Street east of Mill Street to allow for the GO Station expansion and a new larger bus loop, along with new urban development on city owned land.

Constructing the third track to the south of the existing platforms – required for hourly or better all-day service (including counter-peak trains) – would require the closure or realignment of Railroad Street further south. Most transit hub proposals call for either the complete closure for a bus loop or a bus roadway along a shifted roadway.

The shortlist of options has yet to be released.
