Toronto 160 Front West | 239.87m | 46s | Cadillac Fairview | AS + GG

Okay okay okay, so I only wrote "nice!" above. I ought to add that I've been waiting for a design like this to hit Toronto, a bit out of the ordinary at last, and I love glazing and the convex at street level.

Now I see nothing wrong with the business district expanding westward. It's going to happen anyway. I see nothing wrong with varying the uses along Front, either. Most of all I like this skyscraper - it has dash. It could go ten storeys taller in this location, too.

If anyone wants to call this the entertainment district, go ahead. But it's not my entertainment district. Pizza houses and steak places - chains - named after American places? Nah.

Here's it with CookieMonster eyes. Sorry, couldn't resist. I don't think I can look at that side of the tower without seeing cartoonish mouths.

Hey, id say re-open the casino debate and have a casino-resort,
.. then youll have real entertainment, with many top notch food/drink establishments setting-up shop in the area

Are those slots in the tower for wind electricity? Seems like you could put some turbines in there and get some green energy.

They are cartoonish, those aerodynamic slits, but they also look way cool in my books. It's a strange but not unpleasant building, and that interior chamber at the very top could be a hugely appealing spot affording killer views of the city.

So everyone, we are jamming the genie back into the bottle for a little while (you can do that, right?) on 160 Front.

It turns out that during the time that Piranha was working on the video, several details of the tower's design were evolving, and the stills from the video, especially the close-ups, no longer reflect the latest refinements to the building's design. Cadillac Fairview requested that Piranha take down their webpage for the time being as they do not want to set up expectations for something which has already been altered. Piranha have suspended their page for now, and the video is now also password protected as you may have already noticed.

We have suspended our front page story for the moment too. We get that Cadillac Fairview wants to present their completed vision when it is ready, so now we will just look forward to the moment when their team settle upon a design that they are comfortable with releasing officially.

They aren't turning the design inside out, it's evolving. When you create something this complex you refine and refine and refine, then experiment and refine some more and some more. The biggest issue was that in the time since that crafting of the video began, the design has continued to be refined, and not every move has been signed off on yet. As I partly said above, Cadillac Fairview don't want to set up expectations for any particular gestures until such time as they are sure that they will happen. You don't want to present a menu until you're fully happy with your cooking, right?

In regards to what they have submitted, they have zoning bylaw approval. They don't have site plan approval yet. Until then, they are tweaking away.

Ah, 'aerodynamic slits'. I knew there must've been some purpose to them. And no doubt that they look cool. I wasn't trying to undermine them, just couldn't help imagining them as a face. It's a very striking building, and IMO will prove to be quite the landmark.

Oh shit. I hope my ridiculing of these balconies didn't play a role. Probably not, but I feel somewhat guilty for poking fun at this great project.

Hey, I have no clue what the slits are for. I just liked their inward-sweeping curves, hence "aerodynamic." But on the whole, I really dig the project; I'll be interested to see these promised refinements.

Ha! I caused a leak... Ingenious googling skills.

I'm worried based on what you said they've dropped the crimpled facade. That was a wonderful feature.

second that.. or third.... Either way I personally don't support boring average looking sky scrapers. Especially not for Toronto.
