I wish they spent as much love for the tower portion as they did for the heritage portions.

The base is not finished yet.

I dunno, there’s not a whole lot of work left to do and the elements that are making it feel rather moribund aren’t going anywhere.

That podium doesn't work, does it. Instead of the vertical elements pulling into a base with nice materials and features, adding interesting details to a well designed and proportioned front door, lobby, etc, we have the vertical elements just hanging on their own, out of place and in the way, in front of what looks like a cheaply clad mechanical building. Not good.

The mishmash spandrel and mullions behind it is distracting as hell - it would have looked far better if they had gone with something that at least attempted to visually tone it down to something more coherent. Dark glass and black mullions? But nope they couldn't bother - why spend all that effort with those aluminium cladding and then sabotage its' impact and make it look cheap and unrefined?

Even keeping the the vertical elements flush with the building, and getting rid of cantilevering the tower on top the podium could've simplified it enough to make it less of an issue. Not a good solution, but wouldn't have made it stand out as much perhaps.

This 1000%. The aluminum cladding is the main architectural feature. Darker (and cohesive) mullions and spandrel would have given the aluminum even more pop and enhance the twisting effect.

This may one day be an attractive building. Better glass would go a long way. I await the 2060 re-clad.
