Nov 14 just a couple pics...

Dundas west. South side, just a few steps west of Bay street. haha, I think they rounded up my old man in this one.:)

Only the green and aluminum clad former Sai Woo building is left today.

while i really do love this thread, it can be very, very frustrating to look at. Sometimes i get headaches, and it's not just from want of fish and chips.

They haven't torn everything down; we aren't Calgary. :) Go have a walk; there's lots left standing. Colborne Street just west of Church is a nice example of a place where you can still get lost in 19th century atmosphere. Appreciate what we have and go order some battered fish.:D

Pictures look better in black and white!! : - )

Honestly, it makes anything from the past look that much better.

I'm not arguing that they were beauties : - ) but anyway, something to remember.

Nov 17, just a pair of pics, hope to get out more when business is less hectic

Dad checks his new-in-1973 watch and decides it's time for a late night drink at Lichee Gardens :)

That's Ward 5 Alderman Ying Hope boogying with his wife in your third photo, Mustapha. The street festival took place in July 1970 as part of a fundraising drive to raise $200,000 to build a retirement home for members of the Chinese community.

On the left, my paternal grandfather in the middle (Fred), my uncle (Fred.. I also have second Uncle Fred.. but that's another story), and my dad. On the right, my maternal grandfather in the middle, my aunt Marilyn and my mom. Notice anything interesting about these two photos from Toronto?
My parents wouldn't meet for another 25 years or so. I was the first to notice the similarity, even though these two photos were sitting in frames next to each other for years.

Amazing!

Me and my wife lived within blocks of each other around Yonge and Finch when we were kids/teenagers. She's three years younger and went to a different high school so we never connected at that time. We must have passed each other thousands of times. I only met her later when we were at York U. Our parents still live around the corner from each other.

The Childs sign.. both pics were taken on the same section of street? How wonderful and fascinating.

The good shoes on your maternal grandfather.. the hats on the ladies, just great.

Can you or one of the older folks in your family tell us what street and location exactly?
