The Weather

Stay off the roads! Both my partner and I have tomorrow off. He's working from home and i have a snow day. I doubt we will see plows till tomorrow night on our street. It's going to be a busy 24 hours for the city's snow clearing crews.

GTA residents urged to 'stay home' during storm, as snow accumulation could reach 60 cm

Looks like snowfall record for downtown Toronto has been broken!

The previous record was 58.4 cm on December 25-26, 1872. The new record is 61 cm on January 25-26, 2026!

Patio weather?? It's early February dude...we might get that in late April if we're lucky, and even that's a stretch.

I'm jealous of my sister in Victoria BC, she is texting me her summer flowers from last year are still growing, because the winter has been so warm out there. Other years she has her entire garden planted with summer flowers, while we still have snow on the ground.

My uncle in Perth, Australia says he’s shocked when I show him photos of our snow and my outside thermometer.

The current weather reminds me of my years in Québec City and cured me of any residual nostalgia. I'd fall arse over tit at least a couple times during winter. That was funny in my 20s, it wouldn't be in my 60s.

Woke up this morning in North Bay to -31*C ambient. Luckily, sunny and warm an it got all the way up to a balmy -20. I'd like to get out snowshoeing but to cold for this old body. This used to be a normal winter's working day in my 20s and 30s in n/w Ontario but it has become less fun with age. Our dogs have been out for a walk three times in the past two weeks. It's too cold (and no, I'm not putting boots on them).

We moved out of the Simcoe county snowbelt and that I don't miss. You don't have to shovel cold.

I lived in Northern Ontario for a lot of years. This weather was our winter from December through March (sometimes November and April played along for a bit). I moved back "down south" as Toronto is called up there for a reason. I am not amused.
One of the reasons we left Fredericton and returned to Toronto in 2007. I don't mind the deep chill and heavy snows, just as long as it's gone by late Feb. The unusual cold snap for Toronto may kill off some of the invasive creatures and plants that are creeping northward, so that's a place.
