From what I have heard, Target will not be content with slapping their name on the old Zellers locations (like Walmart did with Woolco in the 90s). There will be major construction/demolition/rebuilding of the sites.

This means Zellers diners will probably be replaced with a small Starbucks store sadly. During my student days the breakfasts at the Zellers diners was the best deal around!!!

While I think you're correct that the Zellers diner as we know it is not long for this world, the Target stores I've visited in the States have had a wide variety of food vendors, including some store branded hot dog and burger stands, Pizza Hut/Taco Bell, etc. I don't believe it's automatically a Starbucks.

Interesting. I wonder what will happen to Zellers' offices and distribution centre in Brampton. That complex (Queen/Torbram) was second hand from K-Mart.
I remember when Zellers took over Towers, they pretty much slapped their name on those, and K-Mart in the late 1990s. I only fondly remember K-Mart because my first "job" was a few rounds of collecting shopping carts and taking them back to the Shoppers World store for a few bucks apiece.

Final list of Target's second traunce store selection should be coming out today....should be around another 50 locations.

I don't think that was part of the purchase. Target's snazzy new HQ is on Explorer Dr. in Mississauga - just waiting for people to move in.

39 will be Walmart, with the others being sold/leased to other retailers and/or bought out the landlord.
By my math that's 16 stores which don't yet have an identity.

Me too. Proximity to gentrified and gentrifying neighbourhoods. But Target did take Shoppers World on the Danforth, which isn't that far a drive away.
