SmartTrack (Proposed)

What I find interesting is that the RFQ is already out, and technically the project has not been approved (funded) yet by council

A large package on ST is heading to Toronto's Executive Committee on April 17th.

Staff reports covering funding, station details, terms and conditions of ML and City participation, etc etc are on line here.

Do these costs estimate include EWLRT extension?

I fall to see why ST couldn`t be up and running by late 2020 or early 20121. All of the Toronto sections {which is 90% of the whole line} will already be grade separated. All it basically requires at this point is electrification and the adding of new stations and the latter can be phased in but all the stations are not essential to initially get the system rolling.

As far as ST {or RER for that matter} has Metrolinx/TTC figured out what kind of vehicles they are going to be using yet?

I believe that it is the operator's call

Well, since ST is really just a GO train that stops somewhere extra, it’s reasonable to assume that the equipment will be GO bilevels until/unless GO buys something elso. The stations can be phased in at whatever rate makes sense. sure. But....until GO is ready to run trains at a frequency that makes ST marketable, and until they have equipment that can stop and start fast enough to handle the schedule, an ST station is just an illusion.

ML says equipment procurement and electrification will be the responsibility of their operations vendor, and they are only just starting the procurement for that. So it will probably take longer than 2020.

And subject to delays by whoever makes the trains (BBD comes to mind...)

It will have to be something else, because the current bi levels are too long to stop at the Smarttrack, OR the GO RER (Spadina, Park Lawn, Bloor on Barrie Line) stations.
