Rogers Cable - Service Interruptions

I've been a Rogers customer for 25 years and generally I've been happy with the service. Once in awhile Internet speed would slow down or would go offline and I would reboot and back to normal. Lately it's been nonstop interruptions of either going offline completely or slowing down to dial up speed or slower. I've called tech support (30 min. wait) 3 times in the last week and have replaced my router and even had a technician replace all the cable leading into my apt. but the problem persists. Anybody else experiencing this or is it unique to me.
 
don't wast your time with rogers cable. They use a really shitty carrier for modulation in turn bad sympte for NTSC standards. They are in the process of having to change to fibre which will result in many nodes being off line for long periods of time. I too had many drop outs with rogers found it so frustrating that when another carrier was available in my hood using fibre I jumped on it and never looked back.

Rogers switched to QAM years ago.
 
My mother has Rogers and she experiences the same problems. The internet is slow. The connection drops frequently.
 
I live near St Lawrence Market and last summer we had constant problems - apparently because they were adding additional fibre optic cable in our area. Recently it has been 100% fine - but I notice they are now laying cable on The Esplanade.
 
Well, even though I still have the same problem, they've tracked down the source. Apparently someone in my building either has some faulty equipment or has an illegal cable hookup and it's creating 'noise' in the system and interrupting or slowing down the internet service. The tech guys said it's a very time consuming problem to find and it can affect a lot of people. They said it's affecting about a dozen people in my building and 125 people in our node. They said these types of problems don't happen with fibre optic cable.
 
Anecdotally, I left Rogers cable a couple of years ago and made a switch to TekSavvy DSL (using Bell lines, of course). It costs less and gives me more bandwidth, faster download/upload speeds and rarely has any connection issues. Some people complain about TekSavvy's customer support, but then again, so have people about Roger's support too. I definitely had more connectivity issues when I was using Rogers cable.
 
I have Rogers. Connection goes down like once a year or something like that for me. It's very rare.

There are times when it's slow and I have to reset modem/router to fix it, but that hasn't happened in a while.

My main problem with Rogers are the monthly bandwidth limits. I was thinking of switching to Teksavvy for more bandwidth and lower cost at the same time. 60GB is just not enough to download music, games, pornography, etc. My home phone uses the internet connection too.

But I heard a lot of problems with Teksavvy not being able to fix people's internet when it goes down. Not really their fault, it's the Rogers people that fix it after all. But I risk being without internet for weeks so I haven't switched.
 
I'm on Rogers; no issues currently. A friend had problems with her internet and they checked everything, changed the modem/router, etc. etc. Turned out squirrels had been eating wires/cables so once they figured that out, the problem was solved :)

Doady, I had the 60GB plan and called them about something -- they told me I could upgrade to 80GB at no additional charge, just had to change out the router which I did. The extra 20GB comes in handy, especially when I'm catching up on stuff via Apple TV :) Wish I could get a decent unlimited package.
 
Rogers are douchebags though. I called them up once before and they said I couldn't get current 80GB plan because I don't have right modem. And new modem costs $4 more per month. It doesn't make sense, wtf does modem have to do with bandwidth limits, but that's Rogers for ya.
 
I have made an order to cancel my Rogers Cable internet and switching to TekSavvy after ~8 months. Even though it was ok most of the time, a month ago I started to have connection problems. My laptop looses the connection all the time. Sometimes I turn my phone into a hotspot because using rogers internet connection becomes too much pain. I have never actually cold technical support though and decided to switch because...

The only reason why I chose Rogers is because they had a good special offer for students. Now, when the discount has finished, I am switching to TekSavvy to save a great amount of money. Why do people use such an expensive ISP when you have others that are much cheaper? I guess there is reason in using Rogers and Bell when you need not only internet but also a land line, Cable TV, mobile phone etc. - probably all those services are cheaper when coming in a bundle.

You should remember that TekSavvy may use the wholesale services of Rogers and/or Bell.

Yeah, as far as I know TekSavvy uses Bell lines, but in the end of the day it is still cheaper to use TekSavvy for some reason. Do Rogers and Bell charge for their brand names or there is some trick?
 
Teksavvy has both cable and DSL. So both Bell or Rogers, it's up to you.

A few days ago I called Rogers to cancel my cable internet to switch to Teksavvy cable internet, their 30Mbps/5Mbps/150GB for $45 plan. But Rogers offered me 270GB for $61, and I refused. And then calling again later to confirm the service cancellation (the account isn't in my name), they offered $53 and we accepted. With the modem rental it's an additional $8. But buying a new modem for Teksavvy would cost $100, plus there's another $110 in activation fees, while Rogers gave me some credit. So I think it was better to stay with Rogers.

Keep in mind tho: bandwidth limit at Teksavvy doesn't count uploads. So 270GB isn't necessarily much better than 150GB, it depends.

Another thing to keep in mind: Teksavvy is a prepaid service. You pay for the service before at least 1 month before you use it, but with Rogers you pay 1 month after.

The laptop losing internet thing sounds like a problem with the router or the laptop's network adaptor. I don't see how it could be a the problem with the internet itself. That is strange. I had a lot of problems like that back in the 56k days, but now? Not really.
