Hey, give MM a break, he's not perfect. Are you perfect?
Who, MM? I'm ok with "imminent" being anywhere from this afternoon to two weeks from now (meaning I didn't take "imminent" as "tonight or tomorrow" like a lot of people did), but if it doesn't play out sooner than later you have to assume that he loses any credibility he had...rightly or wrongly.

As a new immigrant to Toronto from Europe in the late 70s, I found the LCBO staff intimidating and bullying. The Summerhill LCBO was like a warehouse where you timidly presented your slip of paper with the incomprehensible numbers to an Adam 12-type who glared at you from behind a serving counter - they were big beefy men with no interest in customer service and the occasional ability to be incredibly rude. But Toronto was still in high Presbyterian mode in those days - no drinking on Sundays unless you were travelling and no outside patios.
Now, returning you to the Robbie channel.
A lot of Vet's from WW2 worked at the LCBO.

Until 1962, individuals needed to have a liquor permit. See link.
Wow. That is fascinating. And creepy and paternalistic. Thanks for posting!
I've never seen one of those, but I do remember the separate entrances for women in taverns. As as kid I was astounded that women could cause mayhem with drunken men, so they had to be kept away in another part of the building. Good old blue laws. Once again, I can't believe the stuff I've learned in this forum. Amazing. Not as good as Purple Jesus, but just as interesting.Wow. That is fascinating. And creepy and paternalistic. I remember accompanying my 80 year old grandmother (my grandfather was a teetotaler and refused to go) to the "Strand" in Hamilton...the entrance was "Ladies and Escourts" she used to get egged on by those in attendance for having a five year old escourt......
That is quite the site. Who knew? It's apparently from a book, probably academic. At any rate it seems like the 'Control' was once may more important than the 'Liquor' to the 'Board'. What would they do with Rob Ford, one wonders?
