Rob Ford's Toronto

So did you guys hear that Rob's old school no longer has a football programme?

You mean Don Bosco, or something else?

In Scarlett Heights' case, I'd presume it had something to do with its becoming an "Entrepreneurial Academy"...

I don't think there is anything really sinister here.

My guess is Rob Ford was probably helping to fund team (most likely through his charity).

Now that he is gone nobody wants to step up and continue the program.
Also the fact that football programs are a poor fit for modern high schools:
  • Expensive to run
  • Take up lots of space
  • Need lots of coaches with specialized knowledge
  • Need large teams
  • Boys only
  • Injury risk (now and potential concussion liabilities down the road)
  • Parents don't like them
  • Less popular with kids
  • No cultural attachment (unlike the US South)
  • Not a great form of fitness
Schools could target the same students but get a much better bang for the buck, better fitness impact and less injuries by running a coed rugby 7s program.

Goose poop! I'd almost forgotten the goose poop. So many fond memories. Looks like, with such a comprehensive glance back, the Star's having a little fun with Fords.

I hear Dougie needs a job, he could call them the Raiders. ;)

I came across a perfect "giving Rob & Doug their just desserts" image
