Rob Ford's Toronto

The story was written by someone else with info from Newton. I don't fault Newton for doing her journalistic duty and following up on information.

I didn't say Newtown wrote the article. I'm wondering who called the Mayor's office. I DO fault them for really lousy investigative journalism. I'm pretty sure they don't teach in j-school "be sure to give the subject of your investigation lots of notice so they can get their ducks in a row, well before you or any other news outlet have finished gathering info".

According to sources at The Star, the seller has not disappeared and still wants to sell, he's just laying low for the time being. It's up to Gawker to find a good transaction method and follow through.

At this point the video is less important than the goings at the mayor office over it -and how it basically contradicted all the denials. Given that a homicide and assault with a weapon is tied to the key players identified, that's probably going to be an even more fruitful route of investigation - and far more damning.

Metroman:

No kidding - it made the Mark Towhey's suggested route look saintly.

And yet I like a vast number of Torontonians support him now more than ever. Its clear that trying to clean up 50 years of leftist, elitist, corruption in this city has scared many into trying to crucify this guy, but its not working and that must be so frustrating for the anti-Ford types on this board. Most voters care about the business of the city and the results this man has brought has far exceeded anyone before him.

Get a grip. Results? If this carries on the losses will be in the billions. Sell it elsewhere, malvern2.

malvern2:

Why reply if you are so confident of that? Besides, from the looks of it he crucified himself, but then again, I suppose some need a martyr. And I am sure business of the city was conducted over the last few weeks, esp. considering his worships arrive late, leave early mantra.

Considering his support has pretty much flatlined, I found that assertion debatable. You are right about one thing though, we did get plenty of free PR not seen since the likes of Lastman.

I honestly don't know why we have journalism schools. The best journalists I can think of never went to J school, but instead got their entry BA or whatever and then worked their way up through hard work and merit. For example, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Woodward and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Bernstein . However, I suppose it's like anything else in this new age, you need the specialist degree to get the interview.

I remember doing my undergrad in Ottawa from 1991 to 1995 and the J school there was churning out graduates into an industry that we already predicted was on the decline. I can't imagine going to J school now, unless my plan was to be a poverty stricken blogger for Huffington clones. Might as well study to be a book binder.

Please tell us all the wonders Ford has done which the city of Toronto has never seen before in it's history?

I'd really love to know what you (and others) feel are Ford's incredible accomplishments which enable him to "far exceed" any previous mayor.

Ford has been deserted by everyone other than a fraction of, basically, religious-fanatics. Even the most abominable dictators managed to keep support levels around 30% by monopolising communications with their base.

Unless the opposition hugely screw up the coming campaign, Ford is as good as dead politically.

I see practically no scenario where Ford can remain Mayor that long. How the hell is he going to lead anything or get any work done with this hovering over him? Council will not listen to him save for 3 or 4 ass kissers and he can't attend public events without being followed by a hoard of reporters thirsty for answers on questions he must answer but refuses to. A year and a half of this.... plus any other new scandals that show up along the way? I'm seriously very curious to see how this will play out but I highly doubt that Ford will be able to carry on as Mayor for more than a few weeks unless this somehow miraculously dies down.

- The video is not found, and Ford then declares it to be an attempt by Mainstream Media to defame him.
- The video is a disappointment, along the lines of the Globe story.

The trick to trolling is to be less obvious.
