Rob Ford's Toronto

This is extraordinary. When has a mayor of Toronto ever been compared to the President of the United States?

A full weekend for Rob. A possible appearance on SNL as a coked-up and lawyered-up criminal and then off to the Santa Claus Parade the next morning to projectile vomit over a group of special needs kids while handing out campaign buttons and then a quick appearance at the Argos' game where he can run through a press scrum and then knock down a cheerleader for a few minutes of dry-humping followed by a few more "Gravy Train" slogans. I have a bad feeling about this--we are just a few days away from Rob Ford full frontal...

Imagine Monday's Daily Show, Colbert Report, Kimmel, Leno, etc. if this were to actually happen!

Yeah but those are apt only in a "duo of dumbasses" way. Which fits, don't get me wrong. But low rent Huey longs is fitting in a very specific way

This may be most fitting--all the more scarily so if you follow through to the very last panel...

I love how people complain how Ford makes this city look bad, and yet squeal with delight when American television shows cover his behavior.

Yup, was confirmed a couple days ago, as long as Ford is still newsworthy. I *think* it will be on the Seth Meyer news report part of the show.

I'm pretty sure I read that the show will open with a rob ford parody of some sort. Given the enormity of both the story and material available, it likely won't be the only segment on ford.

AGREED +1000

Even if she were a sex worker, so what? It's legal. Let's not judge her, or label her, or make her life more difficult. She may end up getting evicted from wherever she lives as a result for fear of her "running a common bawdy house." There is no reason to drag her into this any more than she already has been by Ford's staffers or the ITO because some jerks (pun intended) get their jollies or because screaming "hooker" headlines sell papers.

Though conversely, if we time-travel back to the 70s, I'm sure a whole lot of those Yorkvillean disco habitues a la Anne-Marie Sten were what we'd deem now (rightly or wrongly) as escorts-in-all-but-name, hooking up w/Berlusconian or Khashoggian sugar-daddy characters...

From the Torontoist:

"Dear American Media: Who You Should Talk To About Rob Ford

DON’T TALK TO: GIORGIO MAMMOLITI
The veteran city councillor is a crass toady. To call Mammoliti (Ward 7, York West) a rat fleeing a sinking ship is to insult rats: the man has only one political setting, and that is self-interested.

REALLY, REALLY, REALLY DON’T TALK TO: DOUG FORD
This bears special mention because Doug Ford has appeared on both CNN and NBC News in the past week. Look, Americans, we can’t overstate the importance of this, so we’re going to be as blunt as humanly possible: Doug Ford is a goddamned liar. He lies easily, reflexively, and near-constantly, because Doug Ford simply does not care about the truth (when in fact he has any idea what the truth may be). You might say to yourself that you are expecting this, because Doug Ford is going to protect his brother, but you will not be prepared for the sheer scope of Doug Ford’s never-ending mendacity, his constant false equivalencies, and his willingness to argue in bad faith—and you will not expect Doug Ford to lie to protect himself rather than protect his brother, because you will think “well, surely he won’t throw his brother under the bus,” but if you think that, you are giving Doug Ford too much credit. We would sooner have you interview Giorgio Mammoliti one hundred times before we have you interview Doug Ford even once."

I think she's fair game. You don't have to agree with me (but com'on...did you see the same video I did...think I'm making a bad call?)

Besides, it may not be fair, but sometimes you are judged by the company you keep.

It just goes to show how bloody toxic Ford is. Associate with him, and you will end up arrested, beat up, dead, or even possibly called a slut.

That's BS, judgmental and sexist. 99% of the people who associate(d) with Ford will walk away with their named and faces unknown to 99.99999% of the citizens of Toronto. I think this young women is being judged more, and more harshly, than anybody else who has become collateral damage here. And I don't care whether she is a service provider. Sex workers are businesswomen (and men) and, as long as they operate within the law, are entitled to make a living by charging for their time.

Even if she were a sex worker, so what? It's not like they were doing it in the council chamber. There's no evidence that they did it at all.

If she is a sex worker, her business is wrecked because she's clearly VIP material and now her clients would not want to be seen with her. Discretion is everything in the upper end of the trade.

As for her not getting a lawyer and suing, that's expensive and it's like suing for being called gay when one is not. You won't win in court because there's nothing wrong with being gay. What's more, this is a police matter and she'd be an idiot to open her mouth at this point without a heavily-lawyered script.

It really pisses me off that this girl, sex worker or not, will come out of this less unscathed than Twohey, Price, and all the other enablers.

Oh! You mean mistresses!

I agree that it is deplorable that she will take more of a hit than Ford's inner sanctum whom presided over the mess and said nothing. That said, assuming she is a sex worker - doing business with a high profile client comes with occupational hazards - you can't want your discretion and then expect to somehow escape unscathed when your client get himself in deep, deep sh*t and causing you collateral damage. If one doesn't want that risk, don't err, boink someone famous?

But did she boink him? There's no evidence that she did, or planned to, or that he was even a client of hers -- assuming she is a sex worker.
