Rob Ford - Why the Supervillian?

It's like calling someone a fag meant "no harm". Would you accept anyone calling Blacks, Asians and other racial groups by their epithets? If not, why should gay men be any different?

In retrospect, your only regret is that there is something calling archiving.

AoD

I never considered it from that angle when I posted that. I can see now how that could be precieved as homophobic. I know many people here are gay (including myself), but felt that people should be honest enough about themselves to hear all sides of an issue. That's why I posted that article to show where Ford might have been coming from with his remarks.

No one has stopped to ask me why I support Ford in spite of his gaffs. Although I'm gay doesn't mean that I would not hear out a candidate's full platform (which appeals to me on a lot of issues) just because of a gaff. This isn't a police state. It's a democracy. Ford (or Haprer for that matter) cannot undo the years of progress the gay community has achieved. I'm hurt that people automatically think the worst of me because I say positive things about one candidate.

Please, spare us the spectacle of portraying yourself as the victim when those you support have absolutely no qualms of making victims out of someone as a result of their "honesty" and explains to us how it is an essential element of democracy. It cheapens both concept and quite frankly, BS.

^ They're shareowners in both those news outlets, though. Anyway this is turning into a roast, so I'll leave it up to the electorate to vote in whomever they want. Forgive my ignorance to forgive and move on.

The municipal government needs a shakeup, and I believe that only Rob Ford or Susan Thomson due to her lack of political experience could provide this. Rob Ford has a big mouth and deep down may have an old fashioned viewpoint on various issues surrounding diversity. For me, this is forgivable in a mayor provided that he outlines a sensible, fiscally conservative platform with a sound transportation policy, and keeps certain viewpoints outside of politics.

Ford's voice, along with Nuziata and a few other decent councillors have been muzzled by the creation of Miller's executive committee (a gift from McGuinty). The agenda was set by the chosen few and many issues did not even make it to the floor for a full council vote. Councillor raises last year is a good example of the muzzle. Full council was not given the chance to turn it down. On the issues that did hit the floor, robford.ca will give you a flavour of where everyone stood. I hope your joking about Nunziata. Have you visited her ward? It ain't pretty.

I think the noticable queer tilt among UTers skews the acronymic MSM issue--but to me, too, yeah, "MSM" refers first and foremost to "mainstream media".

You might as well object to the use of the term "Teabaggers".

You’re not going to get a straightforward, unbiased, objective opinion here on UT (much less from the liberal-skewed MSM); so there’s no point in you even asking.

Looks to me like Mr. Ford appeals to a broad range of races, ages, genders and sexual orientations in spite of his gaffs.

Basically, he’s the antithesis of everything City Hall stands for right now (rampant tax increases, unnecessary garbage strikes, fees for owning a vehicle in Toronto, a crumbling and costly transit system, political favouritism, corruption with Councillors’ spending habits... boondoggles run by the mob. And when they do initiate something, the work will never be completed and the cost will rival the provincial deficit).

A few requests for clarification:

Could you indicate how your points of view, or the views of those adhering to right-wing politics, are unbiased and objective when compared to the political views of others?

Also, could you offer proof that Mr. Ford will actually reduce taxes that are viewed as "rampant"?

Could please describe what an "unnecessary" garbage strike is? Also, you employ the word "strikes." Did I miss a recent garbage strike - unnecessary or otherwise?

Could you please indicate how city hall stands for a "crumbling and costly" transit system?

Could you offer clear proof that shows conclusively that right-wing politicians or governments are free of political favouritism?

Could you indicate which present city councillors are corrupt or participating in criminal activity with their budgets?

Could explain Rob Ford's spending with regards to his budget?

Ford has a chance to become mayor of Toronto. Why?

Because he is tapping into a lot of resentment against councillors who do not look after their wards by listening to people or taking their complaints seriously.

He will pick up votes in the old Metro wards where his message sounds better than downtown.

I think he is a Red Tory and as far as Toronto will not vote for a "clown" well I guess you do not remember Lastman.

Well, you forgot about Mel haven't you. He was a two-term mayor and by the end of the second term he looked like he was fit to be committed. (Remember SARS?)

Think of Don Cherry, a real-live cartoon character. You do not understand how much we like to be entertained.

Yet, there is an honest anger with almost all of our politicans. Do not lightly write it or Rob Ford off.

Totally agree in the context of the person as a mayor (not so sure about his efficacy given the council). It's almost criminal that he isn't running.

Rob Ford is the Tea Party candidate for the City of Toronto.

The only thing preventing Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh (interestingly, Ford looks like a cross of the two) from flying in to endorse him is that they think that Canadians are all socialist bastards who are beyond help, anyway.
