I need to purchase a smaller rug for a condo, what are your favourite stores for them? Preferably downtownish?

My family have recently got laminate (which I hate) flooring and now they need a large rug to stick down on it. So far they've only seen modern style rugs for sale in IKEA and they're very pricy. Can you recommend any other shops?

Why they didn't just buy a carpet makes me wince, but it's not my house...

They installed laminate and are putting carpet completely over it or are they looking to buy an area rug?
