Don't forget that the dig on the north side took two years to complete, from 2016 to 2017. I suppose they could devote more resources to finish the south side dig faster, but I'm not surprised to see them still digging. Stuff like this takes time.I think it was discovered in the spring. I admit it's been longer than I anticipated to complete the archeological dig. I too wonder what it is - it's been months of archeological crews on the site every day.
