Politics: Tim Hudak's Plan for Ontario if he becomes Premier

That doesn't make any sense. We're smaller than NYC and similar to Chicago and we are the worst in all categories of traffic. Our rapid transit infrastructure is a joke next to them, even Montreal and Vancouver. The report never claims to kill gridlock but to improve on that list so that Toronto can become more competitive

If you believe that building more subways will result in less traffic/congestion on the highways, then I admire your optimism :). It's a growing city, I believe traffic will get worse. At best, it will stay at the current level, but I'm not that optimistic.

Note that even with those large transit systems, those cities are very congested, as are all big cities.

yeah I agree. Sheppard should end at McCowan. If they do get elected, I'm pretty sure that's what Metrolinx will recommend

Hence why the subways might be better run by the province. Why on earth for 10 years the Sheppard subway

-close every night at 2am instead of 12am since the Yonge Line shuts down at 12h30 am north of Eglinton on weeknights?
-run every 5 minutes instead of 10 minutes off peak?
-Why haven't all those condo developers paid a fee to build on top of subway stations like it's done elsewhere in the world?

Ok, I agree with some of this.

-The subways should run 24 hours like in NYC, Chicago
-They already run at 5 minutes off peak, which is unique to Toronto.
-This city is weak, that's why.

BTW, if he uploads the DVP,Gardiner, Allen Road and the Subway, wouldn't that come off the city books? With that free money, wouldn't the city be in a better position to subsidize TTC Bus and streetcar networks? I still support provincial AND Federal funding

Here is the PC white paper dealing with transit and other city matters.

More like white toilet paper.

The man really does love pouring money into subways that nobody will use. They call him conservative?... huh? Seems pretty liberal to me ;)

And Rob Ford is a socialist because we want's subways for everyone.

So this is the hudak plan. Does not look as bad on the map.

Except that he will probably build none of that. It's just another vote grabbing stunt. And as usual, Finch people get nothing.

If you think LRT's are your solutions especially after Neptis report and Christopher Hume agreeing to the report's criticism of Transit city than you're an utopist if I'm an optimist

looks better with the DRL as red line added to that

Hudak supports running the east Bloor-Danforth subway extension along McCowan up to Sheppard and he also is supporting the DRL in the core.

I think this is stupid. Just bring bloor Danforth the STC and create a transfer or through line with Sheppard. DRL added. It ends on Eglinton at both sides.

I think the reason they need the closure times (like the late opening on Sundays) is because of the need to do maintenance/repair on the tracks & tunnels.

I think that NYC can run 24 hours because:
- There are sometimes 4 tracks, so they can close down 2 tracks and use the other two during repair
- They can re-route people to other lines since they have a much bigger system. When I tried to get to Williamsburg from Manhattan, the F train was shut down. But I could take another train to a place within walking distance of my destination. Toronto can only really do this with University-Yonge south of Bloor. Hopefully we'll eventually add more lines to the system so we can do this. As an example, we can't shut down the Yonge line between Eglinton and St Clair for much needed track repair since buses can't handle the load.

Heres the real comparison:

Yellow: subway
Blue: grade seperated LRT
Orange: BRT
Light Blue: surface LRT

Black:

Really thin: peak service GO
Thin: AD2W GO
Thick: Express electrified 15 minute service GO

HUDAK:

Note: Hudak does promise some more AD2W GO services, but as he has not specified what, I left them off. also missing is significant highway expansion. the proposed mississauga B-D line extension I also took to mean as an extension to Sherway Gardens as that is what Holyday ran with on his election platform.

note: The plan may include the DRL to Eglinton, though it is unclear so I left it off.

:) As I mentioned, I don't really think there is a single "solution". However, I'd definitely like to see more transit lines built in the city, LRT, BRT and subways, as well as improvements to GO service.

The subway in NYC is 4 tracks everywhere, but I understand the point. I think the DRL needs to go to Don Mills Finch so we can actually fix middle yonge.

I think Hudak will go for GO expansion on Milton and Markham at least.

Also I think eglinton will get built to the Eglinton go station (Eglinton Brimley area) very cheap extension, if he buries it. I think Hudak will be interested in the airport extension of eglinton too.
